Bifold door security

How secure are bifold doors?

For homeowners, safety and security is crucial when it comes to their homes. We often are asked ‘how secure are your bifold doors?’, and the answer is, extremely secure!

Our aluminium bifold doors are manufactured using the highest quality components, teamed with robust glazing and secure multi point locking systems to guarantee the highest levels of security.

We’d even go as far as saying, they are one of the most secure bifold door options!

What makes a secure bifold door?

There are certain features that you can look out for when ordering bifold doors to check how secure they are – from their locking systems, to accreditation’s and glazing.

Our Evolution aluminium bifold doors are PAS 24:2016 as standard when ordered with laminated glass and are Document Q compliant too.

High security locking systems

Our aluminium bifold doors feature a dedicated top and bottom shootbolt locking mechanism, operated by low projection handles for PAS 24:2016 compliance.

With traffic doors, a 3-point dead latch and hook-lock with dedicated strike plates are used in the frame to protect against tampering. They feature a 3-star, BSI accredited security lock cylinder as standard. For doors that are taller than 2.5 metres, a top shootbolt is also incorporated for extra protection and security on the traffic door lock.

If you need full security compliance, for Building Regulations or just peace of mind, bifold doors will need to be ordered with the laminated glass option.

Aluminium frames

Our bifold doors are manufactured using the most robust, high quality aluminium to provide ultra-strength and durability.

Aluminium is a low-density metal which adds superior strength without being bulky and unattractive. Modern design of aluminium profiles, insulating ‘thermal breaks’ makes them perfect for doors which are thermally efficient and highly secure.

That said, there are doors with less aluminium than ours. Due to the thicker profile walls and heavy-duty track support in the frame, ours are the heaviest doors on the market. All of which helps to make ours more secure: You definitely get more aluminium for your money with us!

Secure glazing

To comply with PAS 24:2016 and Document Q, we offer laminated glass options with our bifold doors.

Laminated glass is essentially a sheet on one side of the glazed unit, which is made up of two panes of glass, bonded together with glue.

This keeps the glass as one sheet, so that even if smashed, the glass will not shatter. Instead, it will hold together in the same way that a car windshield does, making entry more difficult and keeping your home secured even if there’s accidental damage to the glass.

Do bifold doors comply with building regulations?

Our bifold doors are fully compliant with building regulations, meeting PAS 24:2016 and Document Q accreditation’s when supplied with laminated glass.

The doors are manufactured to the highest quality under the supervision of The British Standards Institute (BSI), and strictly in accordance with the system designer’s specifications.
