How to meet Building Regulations with aluminium bifold doors from The Builders Choice.

No other door system provides an unobstructed view of a garden like aluminium bi-fold doors.  Homeowners are increasingly opening up the back of their homes with large expanses of glass creating panoramic views and flooding their room with natural light, making the space ideal for living in and entertaining.

Our state-of-the-art aluminium bifold doors have the flexibility to combine sensible practicality with beautiful aesthetics, and they certainly make a bold statement! Aluminium bi-fold doors are very flexible and fit into almost any space, and up to any size.

Doors can be configured using 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 panes, and can incorporate a single traffic door to allow easy access in and out without having to open up the whole doorset.  Doors can be stacked in or out, to the right, left or both and they are manufactured by The Builders Choice to the highest quality standards using slim profiles, giving the maximum visual appeal without sacrificing security, and are thermally efficient, keeping a home warm and heating bills low.

Aluminium bi-fold doors are available in our standard range of colours, Black, Traffic White, Anthracite Grey and Anthracite Grey/Traffic White.  But if you are looking for something special, our range of textured finishes includes ‘Coatex’ Anthracite Grey RAL7016, Space Grey RAL9008 and Jet Black RAL 9005.

We also offer any RAL colour including premium textured finishes on special order.

Building Regulation changes

What are Building Regulations? They are the government standards that building works have to meet and they apply to all new homes, refurbishment, and renovation works.  Regulations are designed to ensure that buildings are safe and environmentally friendly.  From the June 15 2022 Building Regulations for thermal performance (Document L) was amended for bi-fold doors with a >60% glazed area.

Thermal performance of a door is measured in terms of U-values.  The U-value measures how effective a material is as an insulator and the more slowly heat is able to transmit through the material.  The lower the U-value, the better the insulation. Replacement doors will now need to achieve an overall U-value of 1.4W/m2K, while newbuild equivalents will need to achieve an overall U-value of 1.2W/m2K.

Our bi-fold doors aren’t just great functionally and aesthetically, but the hinges, frames and multi-point locking systems are engineered to ensure that a property is secure, giving the property owner peace of mind.

The Builders Choice designs can meet insulation, structural stability and security standards giving you peace of mind that you will be fitting a doorset that is fully above board.  Talk to us about U-values and how they affect your next project.
